Q. Are Lip Fillers safe?
A. Lip Fillers are made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a naturally produced sugar that occurs in our skin to help repair damaged tissue. HA in its normal liquid state is transformed into a gel-based injection to achieve plumper lips whilst still allowing nutrients to flow easily to the skin.
A Lip Filler treatment usually takes around 45 minutes and will begin with a consultation to establish your personal preferences and goals. Treatment is carried out in one of our private treatment rooms by one of our aesthetic Doctors.
Treatment results last between 6 - 18 months.
Your aesthetic doctor may recommend other treatments, technologies or home care products to support your cosmetic goals.
Contraindications
As with all injectable treatments, Lip Fillers do have some contraindications. Your aesthetic Doctor will go through these with you in more detail before your treatment begins but they could include:
- Acute conditions or chronic diseases
- Severe somatic symptom disorders
- Infection or inflammation on or around the treatment area
- Dermatological diseases in the injection area
- Immune system disorders
- Prone to allergic reactions or individual intolerance to the injectable drug
- Certain cosmetic or aesthetic procedures done prior to treatment
Lip Fillers are not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
At SkinSpirit we use Juvederm for all our Lip Filler and Facial Filler treatments. Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler with a base of hyaluronic acid. It is the No 1 Doctor recommended facial filler in the UK. Juvederm was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006.
Please note that all injectable treatments at SkinSpirit are carried out by a highly qualified aesthetic Doctor or Nurse.
Pre & Post Treatment Care
Lip Fillers are an injectable treatment but don’t require any post-treatment downtime. Lips may appear red and swollen for a short time after your appointment, but most clients feel comfortable to return to their normal daily activities when they leave the clinic. The gentle application of an ice pack can help calm any redness and swelling.
You must avoid strenuous exercise or extreme temperatures (such as a steam room or sauna) for at least 24 hours post-treatment. You should also avoid any form of facial massage for a minimum of 2 weeks.
Following your Lip Filler treatment, you should be mindful not to apply too much pressure to your lips, eat foods that are tough to chew or exfoliate the skin on the lips for a few days. We always recommend our clients stay well hydrated after any appointment at SkinSpirit.
Your Doctor will make any other bespoke recommendations to help your lips look their very best.
