The YAG 1064

Your therapist will discuss the contraindications that could affect your suitability for a Laser Hair removal treatments at SkinSpirit. Contraindications may include:
General Contraindications
History of Cancer; in particular, skin cancer
Pregnancy (including IVF)
Use of photosensitive medication and herbs for which 755nm & 810nm light exposure is contra-indicated
Diseases which may be stimulated by light
Prolonged exposure to sun or artificial tanning prior to treatment and post-treatment
Active infection of herpes simplex in the treatment area
History of keloid scarring
Diabetes (insulin-dependent)
Fragile and dry skin
Hormonal disorders (that are stimulated under intense light)
Use of anticoagulants
Epilepsy
History of coagulopathies.
Adverse Effects of Treatment
The use of the Soprano ICE system is similar to the use of other light-based technologies. Historically, traditional systems have demonstrated the ability to cause a certain degree of controlled and uncontrolled tissue damage. In addition, there are the following risks:
Severe or prolonged erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) within 2-24 hours of treatment that could last for several weeks.
Irritation, itching, a mild burning sensation or pain (similar to sunburn) may occur within 48 hours of treatment at the application site.
Blisters, epidermal erosions, or peri-lesional hyperpigmentation may develop and remain evident for several days to several weeks following treatment.
Potential Side Effects of Treatment
Discomfort – when a pulse is triggered, some patients experience various degrees of discomfort. Some patients describe the sensation as stinging, while others liken it to a rubber band snap or a burning sensation that may last for up to one hour after treatment. Most patients tolerate the sensation during treatment, but some patients may require a topical anaesthetic.
Damage to Natural Skin Texture – in some cases, a crust or blister may form. Normal wound care should be followed.
Change of Pigmentation – there may be a change of pigmentation in the treated area. Most cases of hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation occur in people with skin types IV to VI, or when the treated area has been exposed to sunlight before or after treatment. In some patients, hyper-pigmentation occurs despite protection from the sun. This discoloration usually fades in three to six months, but in rare cases, (mainly hypo-pigmentation) the change of pigment may be permanent.
Scarring – there is a chance of scarring; such as, enlarged hypertrophic or keloid scars. To reduce the chance of scarring, it is important to carefully follow all pre- and post-treatment instructions.
Excessive Swelling – immediately after treatment, especially on the nose and cheeks, the skin may swell temporarily. Swelling usually subsides within hours, but may continue for up to seven days.
Fragile Skin – the skin at or near the treatment site may become fragile. If this happens makeup should be avoided, and the area should not be rubbed (as this might tear the skin).
Bruising – purpura, or bruising, may appear on the treated area which may last from a few hours to several days.
BEFORE TREATMENT
Avoid the sun 2 weeks before and after treatment.
You MUST avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
Do not use Depilatory creams 1 week prior to treatment.
If have had a history of cold sores, zovirax may be used prior to treatment and continued one week after treatment.
The use of tanning cream must be discontinued two weeks before treatment.
Please shave the area the day before or morning before the treatments
Please thoroughly shave the area with a bladed razor (not electric trimmers) the evening before your treatment or first thing in the morning on the day with your treatment. If you arrive with the area unshaved or poorly shaven we will not be able to perform your treatment and therefore you will lose one session of your total treatment course. Skin must be stubble-free and smooth otherwise the treatment will be at greater risk of causing burns.
For Facial Laser Hair Removal you must arrive without make-up or arrive early enough to remove your own make-up on-site on time before your appointment.
If you are having your fingers or toes treated, please ensure you are not wearing any nail polish.
DURING TREATMENT
The skin is cleaned
When treating the upper lip, the teeth may be protected with gauze. The gauze also serves to support the lip during treatment, allowing a surface to push against.
Skin colour can compete as a target for the 810nm wavelength with melanin in the hair. The cooling tip will be used with the laser to minimise skin damage.
Safety considerations are important during the laser procedure. The client and the operator will wear protective eyewear during the procedure.
AFTERCARE
Immediately after treatment, there may be redness and swelling at the treatment area, this may feel like a mild sunburn
The application of iced water during the first few hours after treatment will reduce any discomfort.
The application of aloe vera gel can continue at home
Makeup may be used immediately after the treatment unless there is epidermal blistering.
Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation or darker pigmentation. Use sunscreen SPF 30 or greater at all times throughout the course of treatment.
Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment methods (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle at the treatment area for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Shaving or depilatories may be used.
Hair regrowth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body. New hair growth will not occur for AT LEAST three weeks after treatment.
Anywhere from 5-19 days after the treatment, shedding of the surface hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is NOT new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or Loofa sponge.
After the underarms are treated, use a powder, instead of deodorant, for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.
Avoid hot baths and heat treatments and treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours.
