Science & Technology
The active ingredient is Deso fat dissolving injections in deoxycholic acid – a bile acid which naturally emulsifies and solubilises dietary fats in the intestine. It is a cytolytic medication which means it helps break down a specific type of cell; in this case fat cells, when injected under the skin to give a slimmer and firmer outcome.
Whilst you are able to return to your normal daily activities after treatment, you may experience some redness, swelling and bruising, and the treated area will feel tender / mildly uncomfortable for up to 2 weeks. In rare cases, some patients experience more prolonged pain, which can be managed with our support and guidance. We’re here for every step of your treatment journey.
Nodules are not uncommon following your treatment. They can last up to a month but usually disappear without any intervention. If you have any concerns, a doctor or practitioner can examine the treated area and offer advice.
We advise that you avoid aspirin as a form of pain relief, but paracetamol is acceptable. You may also use intermittent ice / cool packs in 5-minute sessions after your procedure or use a fan to keep you and the treated area cool and comfortable.
We do advise that you avoid any strenuous activities or exercise for at least 7 days post-treatment, and you must also avoid hot baths, steam rooms, saunas, direct sun light or sunbeds for at least 5 days.
A compression garment may be worn for 2 – 5 days post-treatment, but your doctor will let you know if this is necessary.
If you are having an area treated that will be visible to others, please be aware that there may be visible bruising and swelling for around 7 days following each treatment, but you must avoid applying and cosmetics or makeup for at least 24 hours.
As with all treatments, some people experience side-effects that don’t affect others. Below are some of the possible side-effects from fat dissolving injections:
- Pain / discomfort lasting a few weeks
- Allergic reaction
- Nodules, which usually disappear on their own
- Results not as expected, such as loose skin or extremely stubborn fat
