Hyper-pigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a concentrated and usually localized increase in the skin’s natural colour, most often caused by sun exposure. It is a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker than the surrounding skin due to melanin deposits.
ClearPigment Laser Treatment
Our specialist pigmentation reduction treatment will help restore an even skin tone and complexion, helping you to look and feel like yourself again. This treatment is focused on reducing the visibility of pigmentation on your skin. ClearPigment can treat many skin conditions including:
- Sunspots
- Age spots
- Freckles
- Hyperpigmentation
The Harmony laser treatment is all-layer targeted of pigmented lesions - including for dark skin. ClearPigment can be used on the face, neck and décolleté areas.
Dermaquest Pigmentation Treatment
DermaQuest has chosen skin lightening over skin bleaching due to its proven safety compared to hydroquinone (the only known skin bleach), which the FDA has determined can be toxic. Skin lightening can be achieved by changing or suppressing the behaviour of the melanocytes in the basal skin layer. Lightening takes longer than bleaching, but it is still highly effective and much safer.

Pigmentation Level 1: Sun Damage
Sun damage happens because the sun gives off ultraviolet (UV) light that damages your skin and causes sunburn. Over time, these rays can lead to wrinkles, dark spots, and other problem areas. Research shows that UV exposure is the reason behind 80% of your skin’s ageing. DermaQuest physical SPF’s are a vital part in protecting our skin from sun damage, mild resurfacers such as our MangoBrite and Glycolic Acid Resurfacer will help increase cell turnover and to brighten and lighten sun damage.

Hormonal pigmentation is a chronic skin condition that occurs on the face in the form of brown patches. It is a dynamic (active) condition that needs lifelong management with continued use of our SkinBrite Serum or SkinBrite Cream followed by a physical SPF to control the pigmentation. Treatment for hormonal pigmentation can be a long journey and could take some time to get the results desired.

What Causes Hyperpigmentation?
When the body produces too much or too little melanin, hyperpigmentation appears on the surface of the skin. There are many reasons why pigmentation can change:
- Skin exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet (UV) rays
- Hormonal changes
- Medical conditions
- Skin injuries
- Ageing skin
Is laser pigmentation removal safe?
Yes, the treatment is safe and effective for even thin and delicate areas of the skin such as the face, neck and décolleté areas.
While most laser procedures produce a thermal effect to stimulate collagen renewal, our Harmony ClearLift laser uses a specially designed fractional Q-Switched laser to achieve a deep mechanical effect, focusing the energy beneath the epidermis. This creates a controlled dermal wound while leaving the epidermis intact.
The wound healing process stimulates the growth of new collagen as well as contracture and tightening of the tissue. The treatment is a ‘lunchtime procedure’ that is virtually painless with no downtime, no need for pre-treatment anaesthetic and is safe for all skin types (I-VI).
